Eric Adams has made history as the first serving New York mayor to be indicted. Just as Donald Trump was the first former president to be indicted. And just like Trump, Eric Adams appears to be indicted for crimes that are not really crimes, or are crimes at a stretch. And, just like Trump, the DOJ is trying to criminalize a politician for being a politician.
And again, just like Trump, Eric Adams attacked the establishment and called out a key part of the progressive plan - mass immigration. More than anyone else, Adams, a Democrat, made immigration a live political issue just as Border Czar Kamala was running for President. Adams said the dumping of illegal immigrants in New York was unacceptable - financially and morally - and embarrassed the Biden/Harris administration. That was intolerable and unacceptable and he must be punished for that. And not just a little punishment but, like Trump, Adams must be ruined financially and perhaps sent to prison. The message must go out to those who might think about emulating him and ask unacceptable questions about the progressive project.
Adams was charged with breaching a New York law that prevents corporations and business people giving money to politicians running for election. But why should there be restrictions on who or what supports a politician if there is transparency? As long as people see who is funding a politician, why are some taxpayers prevented from supporting politicians and others are not? Even the restriction on foreigners supporting candidates makes no sense. These foreigners, like myself, might have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes but we can’t help or oppose politicians, who set the taxes, get elected? Without this unfairness there would be no need for straw donors.
Adams is also in trouble for passing off illegal foreign campaign contributions from Turkish businessmen as legally sourced and using them to receive matching public funds. If you’re confused as to why “matching public funds” can be used to support campaigns, I am too. It’s a stupid idea - it’s arbitrary and favors the incumbent who, because of their power and name recognition, will always be able to raise more money and therefore benefit from more matching funds.
The Turkish contributions came during several ritzy trips Adams took to the country. These included discounted or upgraded luxury travel and accommodation from a person who worked for the Turkish government. It sounds bad and prosecutors have spun it as “foreign influence over US politics”. But what evil quid pro quos did the Turks want in return for their gifts? Adams put pressure on the fire department to speed up the granting of a temporary fire safety certificate for the newly opening Turkish consulate. That was the beginning and ending of him assisting his donor. In other words, what politicians do every day for their supporters.
Also outlined in the indictment is how one foreign businessman sought to use his donation and closeness to Adams “to enhance his reputation” and help the donor’s business in Brooklyn. So according to the feds, it is now illegal for your donors to boast to others about how close you are to a politician. And somehow if THEY do it, then the politician should be prosecuted. Adams is being prosecuted for the boasts of a supporter?
Another part of the indictment highlights how two Turkish citizens discussed how they could turn the Adams victory into a win for their lobbying for their country. Again: normal political donations and normal political jockeying for position.
More notes from the indictment: Adams and his domestic partner accepted a free business class upgrade on a trip to India. But politically prominent people all over the world are more often than not automatically upgraded to business class, regardless of which airline they travel on. It’s just how it’s done. But if the government wants to get you, then they can make it into a crime.
Other “criminal acts” include supporting donors celebrating their country’s national day.
In other words, if you turn up at an event organized by a donor where there would be lots of potential voters, that’s now a crime. Lock Him Up!!
And - the horror - another business man thanked him for “partially resolving” a dispute with the Department of Buildings and expediting the process. Can you imagine the charges Adams would be facing if he had completely resolved the issues?
Adams of course failed to disclose many of these donations but this is only an issue when they want to make it an issue - many politicians have been allowed to “correct the record” when its been discovered they failed to declare gifts, even from foreign countries. For example Biden didn’t declare and even St AOC didn’t bother.
Apparently some people said, in intercetped communications, that they contributed money because they believed Adams might someday be president of the United States, and what a friend they would have then. In other words normal donations to rising stars in a political party by donors either impressed by the candidate or wanting to promote their own interests and ideology. This is being somehow twisted into a crime by a DOJ wanting to bring down an enemy.
Meanwhile the FBI and DOJ have emails and bank transfers to the son of the sitting president that amount to millions of dollars from Ukrainian, Romanian, Chinese and Russian state-owned or state-influenced organizations. Hunter Biden did nothing to deserve this generosity except be the son of President Joe Biden. The authorities even had emails where Hunter described allocating 10% of the fund for the “Big Guy” - President Joe Biden.
And Hunter Biden proved to be one of the most successful young artists of all time - with his paintings reaching record prices after an inaugural exhibition. Even the New York Times was speculating if this was just a way of funneling large sums of money to the president through his son. But there was no prosecution for corruption or wire fraud (whatever that is). Hunter was offered a sweetheart deal for unrelated matters and the president was left untouched regarding the corruption.
Not to mention that the Supreme Court has consistently narrowed the definition of government corruption in recent years.
In fact they have narrowed what can be charged as corruption across the board. All sides have to personally benefit and that has to be the reason for the money changing hands.
They even cleared Chris Christies’s henchmen of all charges in the atrocious BridgeGate scandal.
This was when the Gov. Chris Christie’s political appointees shut down several lanes of the George Washington Bridge in an act of retaliation against the mayor of Fort Lee who refused to announce his support for Christie’s re-election. Some people may have died as ambulances were delayed in the subsequent traffic jams. The Supreme Court ruled the shutdowns did not qualify as criminal because it was just dirty politics. People may have been harmed but people are often harmed by the actions of politicians (for examples Kamala’s policy of opening the border to criminals. How many deaths has that caused?) According to the Supreme Court politicians being politicians and donors being donors is not illegal.
But that has not stopped the DOJ prosecuting a politician who was embarrassing the Biden/Harris administration. Threats to the ruling class must be eliminated using the full power of the state. You might not like Eric Adams’ policies or his ideology but if you think Donald Trump is being persecuted and prosecuted - you need to be very skeptical of the charges Adams is now facing. And remember those who get a taste for persecution never stop at just one or two victims.
Eric Adams says this is A PLOT to discredit him because he has complained (rightly so) about The Biden Administration has not helped NYC with the Migrant Problem (That would be ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS). 1. Given what we have seen in the last 3 1/2 years He may Have A Point. 2. This would be a better point if it weren't for the fact he still supports Sanctuary Cities (when they are Somewhere else), And not A Good Solid Democrat.
If he gets a jury trial in NYC I could see him go free. If That happens, I'm getting a Big Bag Of Popcorn!
