BREAKING: Supreme Court Lifts Ban on Abortion Pill
Access Will Be Fully Reviewed in a Week
Conservative Justice Samuel Alito has just restored mail order access to the abortion pill, overturning a ruling that had threatened to end one of the most common forms of abortion in the US.
The pill brings on miscarriages/births in pregnant women with the babies often being flushed down toilets or disposed in trash cans.
It has become increasingly “popular” as a form of abortion as more states bring in bans on medical/surgical abortions following the overturning of the Roe Vs Wade case which legalized abortion across the US.
The Supreme Court order temporarily allows women seeking abortions to obtain the pill at pharmacies or through the mail, without an in-person visit to a doctor.
Those rules had been in effect for several years until a federal court imposed a ban last week.
Alito would be seen as one of the most conservative judges on the Supreme Court. He authored the majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022), which overturned Roe v. Wade - so his signing of this order allowing mail order access to the abortion pill is surprising.
However Alito’s order will remain in effect for only another week as the court has asked both sides to respond and the court more fully considers the issue.
